If you are in New York for Fashion Week later on this month, you might just see a 70-foot billboard featuring X-Files star Gillian Anderson wearing nothing more than a pair of costume cat ears and a big smile. The 49 years old actress joins a growing list of celebrities, including Pink and Taraji P. Henson, in PETA’s “rather go naked than wear fur” campaign.
The campaign is aimed to prevent the cruel treatment of animals, with the upcoming fashion week always being a big target. In a released statement Anderson said “I found it liberating to use my body to make an important statement. People tend to look away from anti-fur ads showing mangled animals, but they’re drawn to PETA’s ‘naked’ campaign, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
PETA has traditionally used fashion week as a target due to the number of fur outfits and coats used on the runways, and their message seems to be getting through. Several designers have stopped using fur, with Michael Kors and Gucci being the latest to announce that they would no longer use real fur in their collections.
This isn’t the first time Anderson has teamed up with PETA. In 2015 she released a shocking ad after her series Hannibal ended that featured her sitting down to dinner to eat her own legs.
